Sustainable Concept for Living and Working in Berlin

On one of the last available plots in Berlin's Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, a residential and commercial building with unusual modern architecture has been built near Kurfürstendamm. Based on plans by Berlin architect Michael Kunat, Fortuna Familien GmbH has constructed a seven-storey building with 18 apartments and four office spaces on the ground floor.

Project description

The investor wanted to create a modern, sustainable building that could transition elegantly and seamlessly into a sustainable future. This is how it was formulated. The architects placed great emphasis on a premium quality of living. A large number of floor-to-ceiling windows, balconies, terraces and a large round window in the foyer at the appropriate height allow for a fantastic incidence of light and a beautiful view of the green spaces. The façade made of individual panels with greenery is a striking feature. These are supplied with water by a pipe system installed behind the façade. In addition to the planted panels, photovoltaic panels have also been installed in the façade. The photovoltaic system generates some of the required energy for the building.

Wall panelling from Knauf Design complements the linear design

KNAUF Design used DB 230 Wood oak veneer for the wall panelling of the staircase and the very sophisticated entrance area of the building, which were clearly declared as escape routes and assembly points. There were high fire protection requirements here (A2-s1 d0). The classic oak veneer finish made it was possible to impressively complement the design of the living room furnishings of oak parquet flooring and the corresponding interior window frames. The interesting mix of materials used in the foyer, which is designed with a lot of wood, metal, leather, and glass, has created a classically elegant reception area that is perfectly integrated into the ecological standards of the entire residential ensemble.

The boards supplied by Knauf Design, including the partial boards for the edging of the round glass window, were installed according to precise measurements by the experienced Adlershofer Tischler GmbH (Berlin) company. KNAUF Design also machined and delivered the edging and required mitering ready for installation.

The installation was undertaken using wedge bars. The ceiling panels were installed using the DB-Fix grid.
