Optical ash, acoustically silent, safely fire protection

Art, culture and an enthusiastic audience meet in the Carmen Würth Forum. So that it doesn´t get too loud, a wall covering made of Knauf Design gypsum fibre boards DB 230 WOOD ash acoustics ensures an acoustically pleasant atmosphere.

On the occasion of his 80th birthday, Prof. dr. h.c. mult. Reinhold Würth, chairman of the supervisory board of the Würth Group, did not give his wife a diamond ring, no trip around the world and no Porsche. Instead, he handed her the keys to the Carmen Würth Forum, named after her, a 170,000-square-meter congress and cultural center designed by British architect David Chipperfield. The big hall hosts anniversary celebrations, congresses, fairs and product presentations. As a chamber music hall, the Reinhold Würth Saal is the venue of the Würth Philharmonic and offers space for cultural events and events in the upper corporate event area.

Description of the project

The daylight-flooded entrance foyer invites you to loose communication and serves as an additional event space.

Timeless elegance throughout the building is ensured by sophisticated interior design using quality materials. The look and feel of wood play an important role. In the foyer, for example, the planner relied on the calm appearance of bright ash as wallcovering. He choses DESIGNBOARD 230 WOOD ash acoustics as the panel material to harmonize the desired appearance with the fire protection and acoustic requirements of a public building.

Due to acoustic processing - front micro-perforated, offset 8/4/1.5 mm, back perforated, 16/8/15 mm - wallcoverings are able to dampen the voices of guests strolling in the foyer, even at large events. Thanks to the gypsum fibreboard used as carrier material, they also fall into class A2-s1, d0 with regard to their fire behavior. In addition, the overall ecological concept, sustainability and the creation of a healthy room climate speak in favor of non-combustible gypsum fibre boards. The material that complies with the VOC regulation does not exorcise, instead it cleans the room air and increases its quality.

Where no acoustic requirements made on the wall surfaces, Chipperfield also used ecological unperforated design boards in order to give the foyer a consistent appearance - to which the necessary building services were also subordinated. The grey-white wallcovering in the transition to the toilets in DB 230 PAINT takes a visually pleasing back to the adjacent cladding with the quiet look of timeless ash all around precedence.

Class A2 building materials - tested in combination

Class A1 and A2 building materials - tested in combination

Class A1 and A2-s1, d0 KNAUF Design products meet the strictest fire protection criteria for composite building materials. Consisting of inorganic non-combustible materials, and coated and reinforced with a low proportion of combustible materials, they are the first choice for fireproof composite building materials.
